Projects Portfolio

Major offshore wind and subsea projects delivered across Europe, USA, and Africa

Vineyard Wind 1 - VY, US & Doggerbank - SSE, UK

Offshore Wind Installation | Haliade-X (13–14 MW) | First utility-scale US offshore wind farm (806 MW) & world's largest wind farm cluster (3.6 GW) | General Electric

Led the engineering management of CAPEX transport & installation (T&I) assets for GE's Haliade-X turbines 14,7 MW, focusing on operational readiness, compliance with offshore standards (DNV), and field reliability. Defined system architecture for serviceability and operability, managed equipment specs (lift tools, sea-fastening, commissioning equipment), and oversaw lifecycle processes from design validation to project execution.

Lead Mobilization Engineer – Moray East, Kaskasi, HOW2, Banc de Guérande - EU

Offshore Wind Installation | Foundation, Cable, WTG, OSS scopes | 950+ MW project scales | North Sea & Atlantic | DEME

Managed base port and vessel mobilizations across multiple EPC scopes (monopile, jacket, WTG, OSS, cable). Engineered detailed stowage and loading plans for DP2 installation vessels, balancing crane reach, structural limits, MWS constraints, and deck payload. Coordinated 24/7 marshaling logistics (up to 4 vessels), supervised 30+ personnel per shift, and interfaced with clients, authorities, and engineering leads.

Borselle 01 + 02 - Ørsted, NL

Offshore Wind Installation | 752 MW | Dutch sector, North Sea | Monopile foundation installation | DEME

Embedded onboard the Innovation jack-up vessel, I executed marine coordination and deck logistics for Ørsted's Borssele site. Supervised foundation installation sequences, real-time MOC processes, and logistics loops (load-out, crew transfer, heavy lift). Provided interface support between marine ops, construction supervision, and permitting authorities.

Kaombo Subsea Umbilical Riser & Flowline - Total, AO

Subsea Engineering | 2,000m water depth | 300 km of pipeline & 80 subsea structures | Two FPSOs | One of Africa's largest subsea developments | TechnipFMC

Led structural design of permanent subsea assets (FLETs, PLETs, flowlines) and heavy-lift handling systems for ultra-deepwater deployment. Developed lifting spreaders, seafastening, and boat landing designs validated under DAFs and fatigue life cycles per DNV-RP-C203. Deployed to Angola for field execution: coordinated deck layout, lift operations, and handover of subsea packages from fabrication yard to offshore vessel.

Coral South FLNG - ENI, MZ

FLNG Topsides | 3.4 MTPA floating LNG unit | Deepwater gas liquefaction | First FLNG unit deployed in Africa | TechnipFMC

Contributed to detailed design of primary structures for topside flare tower and pipe racks (8,000+ tons). Applied API and marine operation DNV standards for accidendal, operational, lifting, and offshore loading. Led internal training on structural methodologies and co-authored design guidelines for project rollout. Played a key role in the technical proposal phase that secured the EPC contract award in 2017.

Prelude FLNG - Shell, AU

FLNG Topsides | World's largest FLNG vessel | Weathervaning turret | 600m deep mooring | Australia | SBM Offshore

Executed critical hull–turret integration assessments for the Prelude turret bearing system. Applied Monte Carlo simulations and tolerance stack-up analysis using FEA to validate yard fabrication capabilities Delivered fabrication-constrained design inputs for turret interface structures. Supported construction readiness by resolving integration challenges across EPC interfaces.

About Me

Rémi Lay portrait

I'm an engineer born in the 90s and offshore specialist with over a decade of experience delivering complex energy infrastructure — from deepwater subsea systems to large-scale turbine installations across Europe and the U.S.

I work at the intersection of technical design, project management, and field execution, making sure what's engineered on paper performs where it matters most. I've led engineering packages, managed mobilizations, coordinated across ports, OEMs, and vessel teams, and contributed to project delivery on some of the sector's most visible developments.

Whether it's managing cost, quality, and planning across an asset scope or leading field engineers through high-pressure phases of a campaign — I bring structure, clarity, and calm leadership to complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

I believe projects succeed when people trust each other. I value clear communication, shared goals, and the kind of leadership that creates confidence across teams — from site crews to senior management. I'm known for being reliable under pressure, pragmatic when solving problems, and committed to building strong working relationships across cultures and disciplines.

Beyond Engineering

Outside work, I kitesurf. It keeps me connected to the wind, the sea, and the forces that shape our industry — a reminder that precision, timing, and respect for your environment are non-negotiable, whether you're offshore... or on a board.

If you're looking for someone who combines engineering depth with project ownership and team leadership, I'd be glad to connect.

Installation Manager - Doggerbank - GE Renewable

I worked with Rémi during engineering and execution phases and can’t praise highly enough his professionalism and engineering skills when it came to Wind Turbine Generator Installation and Installation Tooling. Without a doubt I knew I could trust Rémi with any aspect during the design phases and during the operations/ project execution phases.

Extremely knowledgable, and second to none interpersonal skills compounded with deep technical domain knowledge but also understanding of project management and project execution - both on the drawing board and ‘in the real world’

Would I work with Rémi again? Absolutely - and I hope our paths cross again.

Department Manager - PMO - GE Renewable

I had the pleasure of working with Rémi in his role as T&I Field Services Manager, and he’s been a fantastic talent to the team. He’s proactive, well-rounded, and brings a wealth of experience in offshore and onshore site and T&I operations, asset management, IMR and HSE.

Rémi’s leadership played a huge role in keeping our entire fleet at 100% serviceability, with zero recorded downtime, an incredible achievement that reflects his dedication and expertise to operational excellence. On top of that, he’s been a driving force in shaping the department’s identity and growth, building a strong and capable team along the way.

If you’re looking for someone who knows how to get things done while developing and inspiring those around him, I would highly recommend Rémi.

Installation Manager - Vineyard 1 - GE Renewable

I like the way you work and collaborate. You have a communication style that works well with mine. You are able to find creative solutions and communicate them to non-technical people like myself.

Furthermore, you are an excellent writer, and for me your emails are among the best in the company. When you write you provide a good level of background and detail - its clear what you are writing about and why.

You're a great engineer and problem solver with a unique ability to work in technical engineering and finance (CAPEX). I think this is a rare and important set of skills to be able to work in both of these fields. It has been an absolute pleasure working with you.
